Vacation Fun

Vacation is always a fun time. Over the years, we've managed to visit quite a few places. Our favorite so far has been Italy, but we've also had a good time in North America. Someday we may manage to visit all 50 states (and get the pictures posted).

During the summer of 1999 we took a driving vacation in the Midwest. We left Ohio, and traveled through Indiana before stopping to visit friends in one of Chicago, Illinois's suburbs. We then stopped in Wisconsin and saw the Dells and took a ride on the famous Ducks. We reached the turn around point in Minnesota where we spent a couple of days with friends before heading home. As this time pre-dated our digital camera, don't expect any pictures online soon. We have enough trouble posting our current pictures.

Once Bob quit coaching track, we were able to start taking some spring break trips. During 2001, we spent a couple of days in Nevada at, where else, Las Vegas. During 2002, we flew to Arizona where we saw Phoneix, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon. In 2003, we made it to northern California to visit my cousin.

With passports in hand, we made our first trip across the pond in 2004 to Italy. It was a magical two weeks that will probably be impossible to top.

During 2005, we stayed closer to home and spent a week at Kelley's Island, Ohio. Even with the circus in town, it was a peaceful, laid-back vacation.

We hit the road again in 2006. This time our tour took us east to New England. We chose to cross into Ontario and see Niagara Falls and Toronto. We continued on to Montreal, Quebec, before crossing back at Champlain, New York and heading into Vermont. We had stops in New Hampshire and Maine before tackling the Freedom Trail in historic Boston, Massachusetts. We stopped in New York to visit that same cousin, now living south of Albany with his new wife.

During July 2008, we headed into the heart of the Midwest for a week long vacation. We flew into Kansas City and spent several days in Kansas visiting Chris and Maggie. We crossed the Missouri border numerous times during our sightseeing around Kansas City. We headed east across Missouri and spent a night in Rocheport before reaching Saint Louis.

July 2009 saw us head to the Pacific Northwest. We started our vacation in Vancouver, British Columbia. From there we boarded the Island Princess for a week of cruising Alaska's Inside Passage with ports of call in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway. We ended in Whittier where we transferred by bus to Anchorage, Alaska. From Anchorage, we flew to Seattle, for a couple days of sightseeing before heading back to Ohio.

August 2010 saw us head off to Florida, the sunshine state. We started our vacation at Disney. From there we drove to the coast and visited Kennedy Space Center and New Smyrna Beach. We headed back to Orlando for visits to the Universal theme parks and Star Wars Celebration V.

During July 2011, we headed to the Southeast for a ten days of sights, sounds and tastes on vacation. Our first stop was Wytheville, Virginia. The next stop was Asheville, North Carolina and the Biltmore Estate. Our southern most stop was Savannah, Georgia. In South Carolina we stopped in Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Back in North Carolina, we visited Wilmington and Durham. Our final night was spent in Beckley, West Virigina before touring the Coal Mine.

Spring Break is back! March 2012 saw our first spring break trip in a while. We flew to San Diego, California and spent the week seeing the sights. Stops included Legoland, Flower Fields, USS Midway, Coronado, San Diego Zoo and Sea World. We also had a chance to catch up with the Lincolns in Carlsbad.

During the last week of June 2012, we rented a lake view cottage in Lexington, Michigan for a low key week of hanging out. We arrived home to the after effects of the derecho and spent the next nine days without power.

For Spring Break 2013, we visited Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

During July 2013, we took a long weekend to visit Louisville, Kentucky and Brown County, Indiana. While in Louisville we attended a day of the Forecastle Music Festival and saw the Black Keys and Sarah Jarosz. We also visited Mammoth Cave National Park and the Frazier History Museum.

Late July 2014 we headed to the United Kingdom for a two week tour.

To celebrate our 20th anniversary closer to the actual date, in October 2014, we took a trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

April 2015 saw us head to Anaheim, California for Star Wars Celebration VII. Since school was in session, we only had a few days, but it was still a fun time.

In June 2015, we spent a week with Cheryl's mom touring the Southwest. We flew into Las Vegas, then drove to Zion National Park in Utah. We extended our Utah stay at Bryce Canyon National Park before moving on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We headed back to Nevada and Las Vegas for two night on the Strip at the Paris.

In July 2016, we headed South. We drove to Tennessee with overnights in Knoxville and Chattanooga, then headed to Alabama, stopping in Birmingham and Huntsville. On the way back north, we took in the sights in Nashville.

In June 2018, we set off to see four new states in the West. We flew to Colorado, then drove to Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska.
